Learning More

Frequently, we learn from scripture. Often, we learn through experience. Sometimes, we learn through the experience of others. In the ancient world, those who had experienced more were expected to share their knowledge gained through experience with those around them, especially the younger. This wisdom, passed from one to another helped smooth the way for the less experienced.

Walking in a manner worthy of the Lord, leads to a life that honors Him and best suits the man. God created us to live in a certain fashion, to walk in a specific way. When we depart from that we find our path rocky and difficult. In all our endeavors we must strive to walk in a way that glorifies Him. Rubbing shoulders with older men, men who’ve already walked the path as it were, makes our learning process more effective and the journey easier.

Throughout my life, I’ve been blessed to know some very wise men, men who’ve exerted significant influence on my life and how I live it. God placed these men in my life, using them to mold and shape me, to give me direction, to help me walk more closely aligned to the Lord. These elder brothers made a significant difference in my life; especially, in those moments of abject failure. They helped me, picked me up, dusted me off, and set my feet on the right path. Sometimes, they even applied a swift kick to my rear end to hasten me on the way. They were there for me.

This blog, seeks to emulate that kind of brotherly influence. Through writing, drawing on my past experiences, filtered through and by the Spirit, we can draw closer to the Lord. You see, I’m asking you to join me in a journey. My journey is not complete. I still have much ground to cover. Those of you who know me personally, understand that I’m a work in progress and still need help and assistance to mature into the man God wants me to be.

Ultimately, I hope to find a way to foster dialogue on this website. At the start, I’ll be posting, hoping to help other men on their journey, and through self-examination uncover those things in my life that need adjustment to better conform to His will for my walk. I crave your input. Sometimes I hit a homerun with a post. Other time, I wiff and strike out. Your feedback helps me to get better as a writer and as a man, so tell me what you think.
